Nowadays, there are proposals to lower the voting age because they are enough mature to have the right to vote. Minors have become more mature than in the past thanks to the development of Internet service and the growth of the intellectual level. But I think we don’t need to lower the voting age.

First of all, students are not as mature as we think. Children have become smarter, not wiser, due to increased accessibility to knowledge because of the development of technology. For example, immature minors mostly can’t form their distinct views by themselves and can be instigated by the opinions of others because of their use of Internet community services. In addition, they think voting is a simple task, so there is a possibility that they can play the wanton with it without deliberating about it. If several children participate in the election as a joke, this will soon become a problem.

Second, children can’t understand the election pledge completely. They have not yet been independent of their parents in economic or political activities, so they can’t understand the election pledges because they don’t fully understand economic concepts or current international circumstances. So they are likely to elect candidates who suggest pledges that look good only seemingly. As a result, they can't understand the effect of candidates’ pledges, so they can be tempted by meretricious promises.

Lastly, there are no standard criteria to restrict voting. Children's growth is successive. Therefore, if you make a decision of giving a right to vote based on a certain age, there will be opinions against it. Since the degree of maturity is determined by each individual, not by age, the decision based on age will be unfair. That is because the process of minors’ growth is continuous, I think that providing the right to vote based on a certain criterion can cause inequality.

Nevertheless, there may be people who claim that we have to lower the voting age. In other words, I think there's no need to lower the voting age because minors aren't as mature as we think and even if we lower the voting age, the criteria aren't clear.
